Western Kentucky Communities Getting Ambulance Buses

Emergency responders in two western Kentucky communities are getting prepared for the possibility of a disaster that injures several people.

Under a grant program administered through the Kentucky Hospital Association, responders in McCracken and Marshall counties will have school buses that have been turned into ambulances. The ambulance bus can carry up to 18 patients.

Mercy Regional Emergency Medical Service in McCracken County has already converted its bus. Authorities in Marshall County plan to start converting their bus in June.

Mercy Maj. Randy Harris told The Paducah Sun that he envisions the ambulance bus being used for large-scale evacuations or in wrecks that involve a large number of people.
