Plaintiff Lawyers Back Moore For Alabama Chief Justice

July 6, 2012

Former Chief Justice Roy Moore is drawing significant contributions from plaintiff lawyers as he tries to regain his old office at the Alabama Supreme Court.

The Birmingham News says that campaign finance reports show he’s raised about $55,000 from plaintiff lawyers. More than $46,000 of that was contributed in June. The contributions make up about one-sixth of the $310,000 that the Republican nominee has raised.

Plaintiff lawyers have traditionally been big supporters of Democratic Supreme Court candidates.

Campaign manager Rich Hobson says Moore accepts contributions from all individuals who are interested in moral values and Republican principles.

The largest contributions from plaintiff lawyers include $27,000 from the Cunning Bounds firm in Mobile and $7,000 from the Beasley Allen firm in Montgomery.

Moore faces Democrat Harry Lyon in the November election.
