Hurricane Isaac’s Rains Flooded Mississippi City Hall
Sumrall, Miss., officials are considering whether to purchase flood insurance for the city, following the flooding of City Hall after Hurricane Isaac.
City Hall personnel are still working out of the Sumrall police station after heavy rains from Isaac caused flooding at City Hall on Aug. 30.
Mayor Gerolene Rayborn tells The Hattiesburg American operations should be back in City Hall within the next few weeks, now that workers are replacing the damaged flooring with water-resistant ceramic tiles.
Repairs to City Hall are estimated to cost about $20,000 for the flooring, painting and new baseboards.
Alderman Jerry Weatherford says City Hall has flooded four times in the last 18 years.
He said the board of aldermen is talking about the possibility of getting flood insurance.
