Mississippi Town Could See Decrease in Insurance Costs

Residents in the Mississippi Delta town of Metcalfe are now able to buy coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program.

Mayor Corey Holmes tells the Delta Democrat Times that the flood coverage should help improve the town’s fire protection rating. That, in turn, helps decrease the cost of fire insurance coverage.

Holmes estimates that fire insurance premiums could drop by $200 to $300 per customer.

The mayor also wants to improve Metcalfe’s volunteer fire department, which also could further reduce insurance rates. Town officials will send newsletters giving potential firefighters information about certification training.
