Kentucky County Unveiling Flood Signs to Highlight Risks

People who visit Frankfort, Ky.’s Paul Sawyier Public Library will soon get a reminder of how high water can rise during a flood.

The city and Franklin County are unveiling a high water mark sign at the library next month and announce efforts to showcase the local flood risk. Signs are also being posted in other locations to remind residents about the history of flooding and make them aware of the dangers.

The project is supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and seven other federal agencies, all of which are working with local jurisdictions to reach residents.

The flood sign at the library is being unveiled at 9:30 a.m. EST Dec. 10, the anniversary of the 1978 flood. The signs contain links to information about how people can protect themselves.
