Florida Governor and Cabinet to Review Plans for Citizens
Florida Gov. Rick Scott and members of the Cabinet are being asked to approve a plan to hand over some duties of the state’s largest insurer to private vendors.
Citizens Property Insurance CEO Barry Gilway will give a presentation Tuesday about ongoing plans to outsource work done by the state-created company. A 2011 law required Citizens to study whether or not customer service work could be handled by hired companies instead of relying on employees.
Citizens, which currently has 1.3 million policyholders across the state, is considering increasing the use of call centers run by vendors as part of that effort.
Scott and the Cabinet are also scheduled to hear a report on automatic federal spending cuts that took effect in March.
