Kentucky Roadway Fatalities Down From a Year Ago
Kentucky State Police say the statewide highway death toll is down from a year ago.
Through last Sunday, preliminary statistics show 251 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roads in 2013. That’s 79 fewer than during the same period a year ago.
State police say that of the 201 motor vehicle fatalities this year, 99 victims were not wearing seat belts.
They say 21 of the 31 motorcycle fatalities were not wearing helmets.
Sixteen pedestrians have been killed. And one fatality involving an animal-drawn vehicle has been reported.
State police say that 47 fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol.
As of last Sunday, Kentucky has had 40 days with zero highway fatalities reported during 2013.
