ID Theft a Risk After Georgia Charity’s Client Files Taken

A DeKalb County charity is warning its clients they may be at risk for identity theft after the agency’s files were taken.

Melanie Miller founded Suddenly Single Parents, a non-profit that helps young parents. She tells WSB-TV all of the agency’s belongings disappeared after the property management company hired a mold remediation company to treat the office.

She returned after the weekend to find the charity’s furniture piled outside the office. Important items, including computers and client files, were gone.

The Phoenix-based property management company declined to comment. The mold remediation company didn’t immediately return calls from the television station.

Miller cautioned clients to watch their accounts because she can’t find client information files, which included Social Security numbers.
