Security Costs for Guarding North Carolina Fair Ride Costs $400 a Day
Guarding a ride that seriously injured several patrons earlier this year is costing the North Carolina State Fair $400 a day.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that the State Fair is paying to have someone watch the ride 24 hours a day. Authorities say they are still looking for evidence at the scene.
Three people were seriously injured Oct. 24 after the Vortex suddenly lurched into motion as riders were trying to exit, flinging patrons through the air.
The ride’s owner and the man who was running the ride that day have been indicted on three counts each of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. Prosecutors say they rewired the ride so that it could run while safety restraints weren’t locked in place.
