North Carolina Man Arrested After Burned Car Found
A North Carolina man was charged with one count each of burning personal property, insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and filing a false police report, according to an announcement by Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that Michael Anthony Rumfalo fraudulently reported his vehicle stolen on Oct. 18, 2013, and provided false statements to Esurance Insurance Company to support that claim. Rumfalo is accused of burning the vehicle, which was recovered in Onslow County. He did not receive any insurance funds.
Rumfalo was arrested on June 13 after a joint investigation with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and placed under a $15,000 bond.
