Labor Day Road Fatalities Decrease in Tennessee
Preliminary statistics show a decrease in the number of Labor Day holiday traffic fatalities in Tennessee this year compared with 2013.
According to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, 10 people were killed in traffic crashes during the 2014 holiday period that ran from Friday through Monday.
That’s down from the 16 vehicular fatalities that occurred during last year’s Labor Day holiday.
During the 96-hour holiday period, eight of the people killed were vehicle occupants, one motorcyclist died and one pedestrian was killed. Four of the deceased were not wearing seat belts, and three of the vehicular fatalities occurred in alcohol-related crashes.
