South Carolina to Host Disaster Hearing
U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan is hosting a congressional field hearing in South Carolina to discuss how states are prepared to deal with disasters.
The Greenville News reports a subcommittee of the House Homeland Security Committee meets in Clemson this Friday.
Emergency officials will discuss how planning has changed since Hurricane Hugo smashed into South Carolina a quarter century ago. The Category 4 storm hit the coast at Charleston in September of 1989.
Duncan, who represents the state’s 3rd Congressional District, is chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight and Management Efficiency.
Witnesses at the hearing will include Federal Emergency Management Agency officials as well as state Adjutant General Robert Livingston and Kim Stenson, the director of the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.
