Arizona Firm to Run North Carolina City’s Red Light Cameras

Fayetteville, N.C., has selected an Arizona company to run the red light cameras the city plans to reinstall next year.

The Fayetteville Observer reports that American Traffic Solutions of Tempe, Arizona, was selected from four vendors. The city plans to have the cameras operating again in July. Motorists caught running red lights will face $100 fines.

The city had cameras for a number of years but discontinued them in 2007 after the courts ruled too much fine money was being paid to the camera vendors instead of local schools as required by state law.

Under the new system, the city plans to give the entire $100 fine to the schools which will return part of the money to be used to pay the vendor and cover administrative costs.
