One Million Gallons of Wastewater Spill in South Carolina
Workers continue to clean up in Georgetown, S.C., after an estimated 1 million gallons of untreated wastewater spilled.
Area media outlets report the spill was reported Monday when a main that carries wastewater to the city’s treatment plant was found leaking.
Some of the wastewater was released into a ditch and residents are being advised not to go near the area until the cleanup is completed.
The city says it is working with the state Department of Health and Environmental Control to resolve the incident.
