27 Animals Killed in South Carolina Animal Park Fire
Officials at Hollywild Animal Park in Inman, S.C., said 27 animals have been killed in a fire.
The fire reportedly broke out overnight on January 9. Fire Chief Brent Blackwell, of the Holly Springs Fire Department, said an electrical short in one of the florescent overhead lights caught part of the barn on fire.
Hollywild spokeswoman Kim Atchley said the animals died from smoke inhalation. Among the dead were four chimpanzees, two baboons, a bear cub, four wolf hybrid puppies and a barn cat.
Atchley said the animals were in the barn to protect them from the extremely cold temperatures.
