CDI Makes Developments in Fraud Cases
Investigators with the California Department of Insurance (CDI) Criminal Investigations Branch announced these recent developments in insurance fraud cases:
CDI investigators in conjunction with the Citrus Heights Police Department served a search warrant on the residence of Joshua Allen Lund, 23, in relation to an investigation of alleged witness intimidation while Lund was out on bail pending trial for insurance fraud. Authorities say Lund and his associates threatened the main witness for the prosecution. CDI served a search warrant seeking reports provided to Lund by his defense attorney. Investigators discovered and seized over five pounds of marijuana, $26,179 in cash, various illegal assault weapons, and stolen property. Lund was booked into Sacramento County Jail on multiple charges and bail was set at $250,000.
Criminal charges were filed by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office against six men accused of insurance fraud. Suspects Damie Fukushima, 24, Kenneth Yeung, 22, Jeffrey Ng, 21, Christopher Chang, 21, Ryan Won, 22, and Steven Chi, 23, were charged with felony counts of insurance fraud, grand theft and conspiracy. In early 2002, Fukushima reported his 2000 Acura Integra stolen and filed a claim with Progressive Insurance Company. He was issued a check for $5,851.26 for the loss, and a check was also issued for $12,896.74 to the lien holder, American Honda Finance Company. An investigation revealed the six men were allegedly involved in the dismantling of the Acura as part of an insurance fraud scheme. The investigation was conducted by the Benicia Regional Office Urban Auto Task Force and the San Francisco Police Department. The National Insurance Crime Bureau and the California Highway Patrol assisted CDI with this investigation.
