California Residents Start Sunday on a Roll; 5.5 Quake Rattles Nerves, No Damages Reported
A moderate earthquake rattled most of Southern California early Sunday, shaking nerves along with homes and businesses. There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage, according to authorities.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude-5.5 quake struck about 8:40 a.m. and was centered 20 miles south of Palm Springs.
The quake was reportedly felt as far west as Los Angeles and all the way south to San Diego, 75 miles southwest of Palm Springs.
A dispatcher with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department indicated she received dozens of calls about the quake but did not have any word about injuries or damage. In Los Angeles County, there also were no reports of damage.
