OSHA, Idaho Transportation Dept. Sign Safety Alliance

Ensuring safe and healthful working conditions for transportation workers is the goal of a recently signed three-year alliance between the U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Idaho Transportation Department.

OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao’s ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships with employers, trade associations and labor.

Participants will develop training and education programs for ITD construction inspectors regarding construction and work zone safety and provide expertise in communicating such information to employers and employees in the industry. They will also coordinate logistics for the OSHA 10-Hour Roadway Construction Safety Course.

“This alliance is an opportunity for us to work together to equip transportation workers with the knowledge and skills to effectively identify and address on-the-job hazards,” said Richard Terrill, OSHA regional administrator in Seattle.

The alliance was signed July 7 in Boise by OSHA Boise area director Jerrold Hockett and ITD director David Ekern.

OSHA has created more than 325 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
