Fireman’s Fund Sponsors Wildfire Seminar on San Francisco Earthquake Centennial
As the nation commemorates the one hundredth anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, one of the surviving companies from that disaster — Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., will be hosting a seminar to help San Diego residents and businesses prepare for their greatest disaster concern: wildfires.
On Tuesday, April 18 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, FFIC will sponsor the first in a 2006 series of Natural Disaster Readiness seminars, a wildfire education meeting designed to support independent insurance agents’ in preparing their customers for wildfire. A “Will our Home Survive?” wildfire guide will be distributed to support the education provided by Samuel Oates, current San Diego Fire Marshal, and Ron Coleman, retired California Fire Marshal.
In addition, FFIC will partner with participating agents and Fire Service experts to offer on-site wildfire preparedness consultations to valued customers after the seminar as wildfire season approaches.
Fireman’s Fund withstood the 1906 earthquake and fire in San Francisco, paid all of its claims and helped the city to rebuild. In 2003, 4090 homes and $2 billion of insured losses were incurred in San Diego and San Bernardino Counties. Bob Courtemanche, president, personal insurance commented, “Our vision is to give our customers an experience that will provide peace of mind regarding their wildfire exposure through education and on-site consultations.”
Courtemanche also noted, “We know we can’t stop wildfires and earthquakes from occurring, but we can prepare. And part of being prepared is supporting the fire service through our Fireman’s Fund Heritage philanthropy program. The same spirit of innovation and resilience that existed in 1906 is still part of the Fireman’s Fund culture today.”
The Fireman’s Fund Heritage program is the company’s philanthropic mission to support firefighters for safer communities. Grants are awarded for the purchase of needed equipment, firefighter training and community education programs. Since the program was created in 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded millions of dollars in grants to local fire departments, national firefighter organizations and non-profit fire and burn prevention organizations across the country — including more than one million in the San Diego area.
