Appalachian Underwriters Opens West Coast Office
Appalachian Underwriters Inc. has opened a San Diego satellite office for agents to access a dedicated west coast underwriting and executive staff.
George Johnston, a 21-year veteran of the California insurance marketplace and former Arrowhead executive, will head the new office as Director of West Coast Operations.
According to Bob Arowood, Principal and COO, “We’re pleased to have finally made our move into California … These west coast initiatives are expected to make a significant contribution towards our $510 million written premium objectives set for 2007.”
Johnston will be tasked with applying AUI’s formula for writing small accounts geared toward general liability solutions in the residential construction industry, as well as workers’ compensation and surplus specialty lines. He heads a team that will market and underwrite various programs to the western states. He has 30 years experience in the insurance industry with the past 12 serving as a vice president and program manager at Arrowhead General.
Nancy Ryan-Brevick has accepted an underwriting position with the newly opened San Diego office. She has 25 years experience in the excess and surplus lines business and will focus on the western states for this national brokerage.
