Former Cadet Sues Police Academy for Injuries in “Fight Room”
A former police cadet is suing Oakland Community College for injuries she says came from hand-to-hand combat during her final exam.
The Detroit News reports that Jennifer Kunz claims she suffers severe headaches and memory loss after being hit in the head and face in a “fight room” at the school’s police academy.
The 31-year-old Troy resident says in a lawsuit in Oakland County Circuit Court that she suffered a concussion, closed head injuries, dislocated jaw and whiplash.
The suit says her November 2006 final exam required her to physically subdue a larger male officer.
College spokesman George Cartsonis says the school does not discuss pending lawsuits. But he adds that he’s never heard of injuries among cadets in the program.
