Arizona Man Seeks Reimbursement after Rain Ruins Graduation, Jacket

A man filed a claim with the Gilbert Public Schools district after his son’s high school graduation — and his own jacket — were ruined by rain at the outdoor ceremony last month.

Kirk Gossett is asking for $400 in reimbursement for his daughter’s plane ticket from Utah to come to the graduation at Gilbert High and said the money would also help to replace his jacket.

The district hasn’t yet responded to the claim.

Gossett told the governing board that he believes the schools should have been ready to make other arrangements since weather forecasters had been warning for several days that graduation week would be damp.

“What’s the old Boy Scout rule? Be prepared,” he said.

Although Gilbert High had an indoor plan just in case, officials there chose to stick with the outdoor ceremony.
