2 Arrested for Allegedly Touching Off 24 Blazes
Two men are in jail for allegedly touching off two dozen Long Beach neighborhood fires — including 14 during a five-hour period.
Surveillance video and bragging led to the arrests of Caldrin Benitez and Juan Alvarez. The 22-year-old men allegedly torched vehicles and set fire to trash bins and old mattresses.
Fire arson investigator Richard Birdsall said they were booked for investigation of setting 24 fires in their neighborhood over a four-day period in June and early July.
No one was hurt. The flames didn’t spread to homes.
