Another Priest Sex Abuse Lawsuit Filed in Denver
Another lawsuit alleging sexual abuse by a late priest has been filed against the Archdiocese of Denver.
The lawsuit was filed in Denver the week of Aug. 18, 2008. A man identified only as John Doe 2D alleges he was abused by Harold White at St. Catherine’s parish in Denver in 1960 or 1961.
The lawsuit cites a church record from February 1961 which says that White had admitted to molesting five or six children.
White was named in the bulk of the 18 sexual abuse cases the archdiocese settled this summer for $5.5 million. The archdiocese also released documents detailing allegations against White as part of that settlement. He was removed from ministry in 1993 and died in 2006.
In July 2008, three other people filed lawsuits against the archdiocese alleging abuse by White.
Archdiocesan spokeswoman Jeanette DeMelo said church officials haven’t seen the lawsuit yet. She repeated the archdiocese’s standing offer to meet with anyone who has a complaint of sexual abuse against a clergy member or church employee.
