California Fire Grows to Nearly 12,000 Acres
More than 1,300 firefighters are trying to contain a wildfire that has burned nearly 12,000 acres in the Los Padres National Forest along the California coast.
Fire officials say rain Saturday slowed the 19-square-mile blaze burning about 20 miles south of King City in Monterey County. The blaze was 22 percent contained. Full containment is not expected until mid-October.
The wildfire that started Sept. 27 continues to threaten 19 homes and 30 outbuildings. So far no structures have been damaged, but eleven firefighters have been injured.
