Fire Forces Los Angeles Getty Museum Evacuation
Los Angeles’ Getty Center art complex and nearby Mount St. Mary’s College were evacuated yesterday as a nearby brushfire burned on the slopes of the Santa Monica Mountains. According to the center, as the last cars left in the evening of July 8, people were transported to the Jackie Robinson Stadium due to road closures near the center.
The Center houses one of the top museums in the nation, and houses European and photographic works, including those by Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh.
At press time, no collections were threatened, according to the Center, but evacuations were conducted as a precaution.
