Wind Storm Downs Trees, Sparks Fires in Boise
A powerful windstorm downed trees and electrical lines in Boise and that sparked a few fires and temporarily knocked out power to nearly 40,000 customers.
Wind gusts of up to 70 mph August 21 also caused problems at the Western Idaho Fair, where booths were reported blown over. The fair shut down early because of the weather. Several minor injuries were reported.
Authorities say the fallen power lines caused fires in some homes and outbuildings. Several people also reported burning trees or power poles.
Idaho Power spokeswoman Stephanie McCurdy called the outages widespread at press time.
