Calif. Commissioner Hosts Insurance Recovery Forum for Gas Explosion Victims
California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner told victims of the San Bruno gas line explosion that his department will continue to monitor the claims process and make sure insurers are meeting their obligations.
The Department of Insurance hosted a town hall-style Insurance Recovery Forum for explosion and fire survivors on Thursday, Oct. 28, in San Bruno. Local and state officials, as well as representatives from the insurance industry who answered specific insurance questions for fire victims. Representatives from the Pacific Gas & Electric company were in attendance to answer questions on recovery.
“Too many homeowners suffered tragic losses as a result of the September explosion and fire in the Glenview neighborhood of San Bruno, and my heart goes out to all impacted families for everything they have had to endure,” said Commissioner Poizner. “Last month’s explosion and fire ripped through the community, destroying thirty-five homes, and tragically taking lives. But I want all fire victims to know that they are not alone on the road to recovery. My Department is here to help until every last insurance claim is paid.
Poizner said he will continue to monitor the recovery efforts, assist consumers with complaints and make sure that insurance companies are fulfilling their legal obligations to customers.
Since taking office, Commissioner Poizner has hosted Insurance Recovery Forums for fire survivors throughout the state, in an attempt to connect survivors with the resources they needed to get back on their feet quickly.
