Arizona Insurance Council Warns Homeowners to Avoid Roof Repair Scams
The Arizona Insurance Council homeowners with hail damage not fall victim to fraudulent roof repair scams. Unscrupulous contractors and repairmen can take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners when catastrophic weather strikes, it said.
“Investigate the track record of any roofer, builder or contractor that you consider hiring. Talk to neighbors about their experiences with repairmen,” said Ron Williams, AIC executive director. “Also, ask for references and never sign over a claims check from an insurance company until the work is completed to your satisfaction.”
Thousands of homes were damaged during an October 5 hailstorm. Gary Aller, director of the Alliance for Construction Excellence, part of Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, told the Arizona Republic he estimated 150,000 Valley roofs were damaged in the storm.
