New Mexico Announces Grant for Cold Weather Damages
A federal grant could reimburse homeowners for damages in the recent extremely cold weather in New Mexico.
The state Department of Finance and Administration’s Local Government Division is making $1.1 million available through a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development block grant.
The Mid-Region Council of Governments will process applications for Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties and Edgewood in Santa Fe County.
To qualify, residents must meet certain income limits, must own their own home and not have homeowners’ insurance.
Eligible homeowners can fund emergency repairs up to $2,000 for damages that occurred after Feb. 1. Damages can include broken pipes, repairs to water heaters and furnaces and water damage to walls.
