Utah Labor Agency to Award Safety Grants
The Utah Labor Commission is offering $300,000 in grant funding to Utah organizations with workplace safety programs.
The commission says qualifying programs include workshops, training programs or specialized safety initiatives. Utah businesses, nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, local associations and educational institutions are eligible for the awards.
Grant funding comes from a restricted account in the state budget set up by lawmakers in 1996. The funds come from a 0.25 percent assessment on workers compensation premiums paid annually in Utah.
Labor Commissioner Sherrie Hayashi says grants will be awarded to as many organizations as possible.
Workplace Safety Program Manager Elena Bensor says the deadline for grant applications is April 25. The awards will be distributed in June.
