Fired Arizona Cop Files Claim Against City of Goodyear
A former Goodyear police employee has filed a notice of claim against the city.
Julio Iglesias’ attorney says her client was denied due process and his First Amendment rights after being terminated in December.
Documents show city officials fired Iglesias as a judicial enforcement officer for violating an employee agreement.
Iglesias says his firing following an off-duty dispute he had at a school. But he says that was a pretext for reporting suspected misconduct within the department.
The Arizona Republic reports Iglesias is seeking nearly $170,000 in damages, his job back and the incident expunged from his personnel file.
A city spokeswoman says the notice is being reviewed.
The city has 60 days to respond. If the city denies the claim or doesn’t take action, Iglesias can file a lawsuit.
