Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers on Big Rigs in Las Vegas
The Nevada Highway Patrol is putting troopers in the cab of big rigs around Las Vegas this week for an enforcement effort aimed at increasing traffic safety around large trucks and buses.
Trooper Loy Hixson says the “Badge on Board” program will have troopers watching Tuesday through Thursday for aggressive drivers traveling too close to or cutting in front of tractor-trailers – or in so-called “No-Zone” blind spots where they can’t be seen by truckers.
The NHP enforcement blitz is held with backing from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The “Badge on Board” program in Nevada has evolved from a pilot program in 2008 using troopers in trucks to summon officers in marked patrol vehicles to stop and issue citations to motorists.
