Calif. Municipal Bus Agency Considers Changes After Fatal Crash
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is considering policy changes in the wake of a pedestrian fatality involving one of the agency’s buses.
Muni officials tell the San Francisco Chronicle they may require all drivers to get a specific route from central dispatch before they head out to pick up passengers.
Muni Director of Operations John Haley said the driver in the Aug. 19 crash did not take the most direct route to his new assignment. He had been asked to drive the F-line shuttle route, where additional service was needed, when he struck 23-year-old Emily Dunn in a crosswalk in the city’s Castro district. The driver has not been identified.
Muni and San Francisco police are conducting separate investigations of the crash.
