Montana Jury: Fatal Crash Not Ford’s Fault
A Yellowstone County jury has determined that Ford Motor Co. and a rental car business were not negligent in a 2002 crash that killed an Idaho man.
The Billings Gazette reports a jury on Monday rejected claims of negligence and product liability filed in 2005 by the family of Peter Carter, who died in a crash near Ennis while driving a rented Ford Explorer. Jurors also found that Overland West Inc., the parent company of Hertz Rent-a-Car, was not negligent in its maintenance of the vehicle.
Carter was killed when he crashed into a pickup truck that turned in front of him.
Jurors rejected claims against the automaker, which did not include a side air bag as a standard feature in that model year.
