Bus Inspections at Arizona’s Grand Canyon Find Violations
A two-day inspection of every tour bus entering the Grand Canyon has turned up an average of more than two violations for every vehicle.
The operation this week was conducted by the Arizona Highway Patrol and the National Park Service.
It put 9 percent of buses out of service for mechanical violations and 10 percent of all drivers out of service for licensing violations. One driver received a DUI for drugs.
The Arizona Daily Sun says every motor coach entering the national park had its mechanical components checked and the driver’s credentials were examined. The most significant driver violations were for operating outside of the hours of service and false records of duty status.
The effort was part of a national operation to cut down on commercial vehicle accidents.
