Wyoming Ferry Being Reviewed After Sinking
Grand Teton National Park officials are considering whether to cease operating a replica of the historic Menor’s Ferry.
The vessel sank in the Snake River this summer when park staff put the ferry into the river.
Mike Nicklas is the park’s acting chief of interpretation.
He says the ferry sank on Aug. 11 and was raised late last month.
Nicklas tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that there is an incident with the ferry every four or five years. In the 1980s, the ferry broke free on a ranger-led program, and passengers had to be rescued.
Nicklas says he hopes there’s a way Menor’s Ferry can continue to operate because it helps people learn about what it was like to live here 120 years ago.
