Mom, 2 Kids Hurt in Utah After Commuter Train Hits Van
Police are trying to determine why a 34-year-old mother drove a van in front of a commuter train in Kaysville, Utah, while her two small children were inside.
The woman was in critical condition with a skull fracture after the crash about 4:30 p.m. Monday, but doctors said they expected she would survive. Her two daughters, ages 1 and 5, had minor injuries.
Some witnesses said the woman trying to beat the train and drove around the crossing arms, while others said she was caught between the gates as they were coming down.
About 120 passengers remained on the train for several hours while authorities investigated the crash.
