Las Vegas, Nevada Police Will Pay $83K to Man Hurt in Scuffle
Las Vegas police will pay $83,000 to a tourist who alleged officers used excessive force and broke his ankle when he was arrested while trying to stop an argument between two people on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the department’s Fiscal Affairs Committee approved the settlement Monday with Raymond Romero.
Court records say Romero vacationing with his fiancee in August 2008 when he tried to intervene between two people arguing at about 3 a.m.
Romero alleged officers Ricardo Lara and Joey Hernandez injured him when he was grabbed from behind without warning, slammed him to the ground, handcuffed and detained.
Assistant Sheriff Ted Moody told the committee that police later learned that Romero was a passer-by who tried to break up the fight.
