Colorado State University Insurer Won’t Cover Lost Horse Genetics
Horse owners and breeders who lost frozen sperm, eggs and embryos in last summer’s fire at CSU’s Equine Reproduction Laboratory are being offered $1,000 credits toward future services if they agree to not sue the university.
University spokeswoman Dell Rae Moellenberg says most of the clients were told they needed their own insurance to cover potential damage because the university was storing the material on their behalf.
According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, the July 26 fire caused at least $12 million in damage to the university laboratory.
The value of the lost genetic material was not available.
