OSHA to Investigate Man’s Death at Phoenix Airport

February 22, 2012

The Phoenix Office of the Occupational, Safety and Health Administration says it is investigating last week’s death of a Mesa man at Sky Harbor International Airport.

Authorities say US Airways employee Robert DeMarco died Friday when he became lodged between the upper and lower parts of a conveyor belt in the U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s baggage inspection area at Terminal 4.

Emergency crews responded but the 60-year-old DeMarco was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say there were no indications of foul play and DeMarco’s death appears to be an accident.

A US Airways spokeswoman says the carrier is cooperating fully with authorities in helping to determine how the incident occurred.

The East Valley Tribune says DeMarco is survived by a wife and four children.
