Utah Conference Center Fire Causes $500K Damage
Officials say a fire earlier this week at the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, caused half a million dollars in damage.
Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay tells the Deseret News the fire reported about 8:15 p.m. Monday appears to be accidental.
It started in a backup electrical system in a mechanical room above the pulpit and triggered fire sprinklers that dumped thousands of gallons of water in the first few rows of the 21,000-seat auditorium.
No injuries were reported.
The auditorium houses the twice-yearly conferences of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as other events throughout the year.
