The family of a 14-year-old boy killed by a drunken driver in January 2008 has settled its lawsuit against the Arizona city of Tucson for $2 million.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that the family of Jose Rincon Jr. recently settled after the city appealed a $13 million judgment. Under the terms of the settlement, city of Tucson also agreed to name a basketball court or a parks and recreation facility or amenity for the boy.
Rincon was killed when Glenda Rumsey struck him and another teen with her car.
The boy’s parents filed a lawsuit against Rumsey, the city of Tucson and Chuy’s, the restaurant where Rumsey had been drinking before the crash.
Rumsey, now 46, was convicted of manslaughter, aggravated assault and three driving under the influence charges.
