Alaska Officials Conducts Seismic Survey of Fairbanks Buildings
Fairbanks, Alaska, officials want to know how seismically sound some city buildings are.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the city is soliciting bids for a seismic study for seven of its buildings.
They’re listed in order by suspected seismic deficiency. Topping the list of the Department of Public Works, a wood frame building with steel siding built in the 1970s. Last on the list is a fire station built within the last 10 years.
Bids are due Thursday.
Fire Chief Warren Cummings says the state is making earthquake preparedness a priority ahead of the 50th anniversary of the 1964 earthquake in two years.
