Nevada Officials Feud Over Fire Engines Probed
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is stepping into a squabble between the county and the city of Reno, Nev., over some damaged fire engines.
Deputy Armando Avina told the Reno Gazette-Journal officers are investigating claims by the county’s new fire department that the equipment needed $22,000 in repairs when the city turned it over July 1.
A report by Truckee Meadows Fire Chief Charles Moore says the maintenance to several vehicles included two fire engines that needed new tires because the old ones had been worn down to their cords.
The county says the city was responsible for the normal maintenance and necessary repairs of the fire engines under a previous joint operating agreement that has expired.
Reno Fire Chief Mike Hernandez says his department is cooperating in the probe.
