Alaska Wildfire Nearly Doubles in Size

A fire burning on military land near Fairbanks, Alaska, has nearly doubled in size since Sunday, but is not being actively fought since there’s no threat to people or resources.

The Dry Creek Fire is estimated to be about 25,000 acres., up from 14,000 acres on Sunday.

It’s burning on military land about 25 miles south of Fairbanks. Smoke prompted an air-quality warning in Fairbanks on Monday.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the Alaska Fire Service is monitoring the wildfire, which started by lightning on June 23. Dry weather helped it reignite it last week.
