Washington Man Accused of Selling Bad Airbags

A federal grand jury has indicted a Yakima County, Wash., businessman, alleging he sold thousands of counterfeit airbags online that were smuggled from China.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that Jason Jordan, of Moxee, turned himself in last week and remains free while the case works its way through U.S. District Court in Yakima.

According to the Oct. 10 indictment, Jordan is accused of importing counterfeit airbags and airbag parts from China and assembling them at his home, where his business was based. Authorities alleged he avoided customs inspections and violated numerous federal trademarks.

Jordan declined comment to the newspaper after a status hearing Friday.

Federal transportation officials issued a consumer safety advisory earlier this month warning that thousands of motorists may be driving vehicles with counterfeit airbags.
