Utah Student Who Lost Leg in Accident Awarded $650,000
The state has agreed to pay nearly $650,000 to a student who lost his leg in a traffic accident at Utah Valley University last year.
Parker Eades was riding his motorcycle on campus in September 2011 when a maintenance truck driver made an improper turn and struck him, throwing him under another car.
Eades’ right leg was amputated below the knee after a series of surgeries.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the $648,700 settlement, the maximum under Utah’s liability caps, will cover his past and future medical bills.
Under state law, legislative leaders must approve a settlement greater than $500,000. The vote to approve the payment was unanimous.
