Fire Damages Hawaii Trading Company
Business owners are looking ahead, after a fire in Hanamaulu caused an estimated $1.3 million in damage.
The Garden Island reports two police officers were treated for smoke inhalation Friday afternoon, when fire destroyed the Hanamaulu Trading Company. The 116-year-old building had office and retail spaces, including a U.S. Post Office, plus two apartments. Four smaller buildings on the perimeter sustained fire, water and smoke damage.
A postal service spokesman said people should expect any mail or packages they had at the post office was destroyed.
Joshua Ellamar said his family just opened a business in the rear of the complex. He said he was able to remove the most expensive items but the business was uninsured.
An owner of the trading company said they are insured and would rebuild.
