Canadian Couple File Suit in Deadly Oregon Bus Crash

A Canadian husband and wife injured in an eastern Oregon bus crash that killed nine of their fellow passengers have filed suit in British Columbia, accusing the tour company of operating a defective bus.

The lawsuit filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on behalf of June Won Kim and his wife Hee Eun Kim also accuses the driver of speeding, failing to stop, ignoring traffic rules and knowingly driving a defective vehicle.

The Oregonian says the suit filed Friday alleges the couple suffered permanent injuries. They seek unspecified damages.

Vancouver, B.C.-based Mi Joo Tour & Travel has been banned from operating in both Canada and the United States.

Company attorney Mark Scheer has said the bus driver had plenty of sleep the night before the Dec. 30 crash east of Pendleton and that black ice was a major factor in the bus losing control.

An investigation of the crash continues.
